Channel 13 NBC WREX

13 WREX has been a fixture in this area since the early days of television. The station went on the air with test pattern on September 18, 1953 and commenced commercial operations October 1, 1953 and has been serving us ever since.
Channel 17 ABC WTVO

WTVO began operations on May 3, 1953 under the original ownership of Harry and Elmer Balaban . WTVO was the first station to air programming in the Rockford Market. Young Broadcasting purchased the station, otherwise known as Winnebago Television Corporation, in September 1988. After serving Rockford as an NBC affiliate for 42 years, WTVO switched to an ABC affiliation.
