“Reviving the Dead Ladies”

One pivotal point in time for women's liberation and equal rights was the signing of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. “Reviving the Dead Ladies” is a skit revisiting the First National Women's Rights Convention of 1850 through the words of some of the courageous women who dared to flaunt society with their demands for equal rights with men. At the time, women could not own property and were allowed no voice in government. They had no right to an education and had no right to vote. This is presented by the Rockford Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) it will be held on Tuesday 26th at the Rockford YWCA at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. For more information please call the Rockford YWCA 986-1707

Speed Control

As some of you may know Loves Park with the help of the Loves Park Lions Club purchased a speed radar trailer. The City Council along with the Loves Park Police Department has been using it to track and deter speeding throughout Loves Park. We are collecting valuable information from it and using that to determine hot spots. As schools are set to open we will be placing the trailer in the school zones. Please be careful while driving in these zones and if you have a troubled area where speeding is a problem let me or our police department know where it is so we can see about helping to reduce it.
