Holiday Inn Express Coming Soon
Loves Park is continuing to grow and with this growth comes new development. A new Holiday Inn Express will be built at 7552 Park Place just west of I-90 and north of Riverside Blvd. It will be four stories with 119 units, indoor pool and whirl pool.
This is the second hotel constructed on Loves Parks eastern boundary now joining the Days Inn & Suites. With attractions like Sports Core II and the new River Hawks Stadium it certainly isnt expected to be the last.
Project Child Safe
Loves Park Police Department is participating in Project Child Safe a national movement to protect children from firearm accidents. Over the past two years I have participated in this campaign passing out gun locks in our community and at my safety fair that I hold.
Our police department will be passing out 600 free gun locks to our residents. This is a good program and it is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant. The gun lock safety kits will be distributed from the police department, located at 540 Loves Park Drive, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
New School Board Member Chosen
Recently, with the resignation of Board member Michael Letsinger the Harlem School Board sought out a replacement for the vacancy. The School Board held a special meeting on June 21 where they chose Loves Park police officer Rodney Scott from a field of 11 candidates to fill the vacancy. Officer Rodney Scott is well qualified and has served these communities well. I wish him and the board the very best for the upcoming school year.
Law Enforcement/Speed Trailer
The City Council along with the Loves Park Police Department continues to use the speed trailer to track and deter speeding throughout Loves Park. We collect valuable information from it and use that to determine hot spots.
As the school year edges closer we will be once again placing the trailer in the school zones to help with safety issues. As for now, if you have a troubled area where speeding is a problem let me or our police department know so we can see about helping to reduce it.
Flood Control Project Ribbon Cutting
(Below is the press release posted on the Corps web site)

ROCK ISLAND, ILL. The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completed Loves Park Creek Flood Protection Project on August 2 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be at Windsor Road at the South Lake (across from Rockford Health Systems) in Loves Park, Ill.
The Loves Park Creek Flood Protection Project is part of a joint effort between the City of Loves Park and the Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to protect industrial and residential areas from recurrent flooding.
The ceremony will include remarks by Congressman Manzullo, the Mayor of Loves Park, the Commander of the Rock Island District Corps of Engineers, and officials from the City of Loves Park. "I congratulate the City of Loves Park and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their hard work over the last several years to solve this problem. Now that this project is completed, residents of Loves Park will no longer have to worry every time it rains. In addition, they will save a lot of money in flood insurance premiums that will no longer be necessary," Manzullo said.
The Loves Park Creek Flood Protection Project consists of approximately 18,000 lineal-feet of improved channels and 236 acre feet of storm water runoff flood storage in the Windsor Lake system. Since construction began in 1992, the project has reduced flood damages to the City of Loves Park. The overall project cost including all planning, design, construction contracts, rights-of-way, and road and utility relocations was approximately $30 million. The project was cost-shared between the Federal government (75 percent) and the City of Loves Park (25 percent, which includes state funding).
